I will use this space to FEATURE aspects of my own journey and learning in losing weight, getting fit and staying healthy. I will also blog about new discoveries and provide fresh content from other blogs and articles.
More FRESH news is available on my other page called "HOT NEWS" in several categories.
Everyone has one or more particular thing that makes them feel good. As I mentioned in "My Story", team sports and activities made me feel good, but never distance running. It had the opposite affect. It made me feel negative. I compared myself to others who could keep going and I felt really useless.
I had to learn to feel good about distance running in small bite sizes. This I believe is a key part of any weight loss and fitness programme. And this part is in the MIND. It's an attitudinal shift and we need to be really gentle and build up slowly as we learn new habits. Otherwise we will experience a backlash in our body, and not understand why it is there.
STARTING OVER AGAIN
I'm writing this to motivate you but also to continue to motivate myself. I have had to start from scratch, as I stopped distance running several years ago, after a gradual lack of attention, lack of discipline, starting to smoke (how crazy is that at the age of 40!)... Now I am 56 and I am back walking long distances, jogging and cycling and I FEEL GOOD!
That Feel-Good-Factor is motivating me and obviously it is connected with the release of endorphines. The endorphines are neuro-transmitters and the body's own pain killer and happy chemical (an opiate-like substance, hence it's in the class of "morphine").
WHAT IS NEXT?
I have just this weekend bought my new running shoes. I will soon plan and run my first 5 km fun run and begin to build up towards several more and then a half-marathon - still slowly - moving with the energy of my mind-body-spirit.
Now it's your turn. What is your next small step forward you can take - maybe with a "buddy" or club?
I wish you courage and persistence in taking that step and keeping going with it!
